A donated home cleaning begins long before a team arrives at the door. Someone needs to learn that help exists. A patient needs to feel comfortable accepting it. A cleaning company needs room in its schedule, and a nonprofit needs to connect them.
That shared effort makes Cleaning for a Reason possible. At Simply Tidy Cleaning, we support this work by donating home cleaning services and fundraising for the organization that connects cancer patients with participating cleaning companies.
For our neighbors in Kasson, Rochester, Byron, Mantorville, and across Southeast Minnesota, here’s how the program works—and how you can help.
What Is Cleaning for a Reason?
Cleaning for a Reason is a nonprofit that connects cancer patients with residential cleaning companies offering free home cleaning across the United States and Canada.
The organization began with a conversation. Cleaning company owner Debbie Sardone spoke with a prospective customer who could not afford house cleaning while undergoing cancer treatment. That experience inspired her to offer donated cleanings and invite other cleaning businesses to join her.
Founded in 2006, Cleaning for a Reason gives participating companies a way to use their skills to help people facing cancer. The nonprofit connects patients with cleaning partners, while community support helps more people discover the resource.
How Simply Tidy Helps Cancer Patients in Southeast Minnesota
Simply Tidy has partnered with Cleaning for a Reason since 2019. Donating cleaning services is one way we give back to the communities where we work, including Kasson, Rochester, Byron, and Mantorville.
Cleaning for a Reason named Simply Tidy among its Top 100 Cleaning Partners for 2024. We’re grateful to contribute to an effort shared by cleaning businesses across the country.
For someone navigating cancer, keeping up with housework can add another responsibility to an already demanding schedule. Our team can help take that task off a neighbor’s list.
Simply Tidy provides the donated cleaning services. Cleaning for a Reason manages the program that brings patients and participating companies together. Both parts of that effort need support.
Who Qualifies for Free Cleaning Through Cleaning for a Reason?
Cleaning for a Reason serves people with any type of cancer who are:
- Recovering from cancer surgery
- Receiving cancer treatment
- In hospice care
After being matched with a participating company, patients receive two general home cleanings: one per month for two months.
Availability depends on a participating cleaning company being able to serve the patient’s area. Submitting an application does not guarantee a match or an appointment.
How to Apply for Free House Cleaning During Cancer Treatment
Visit the official Cleaning for a Reason patient page to learn more about the program and submit an application.
A friend, family member, or caregiver may help with the application, but the patient must first agree to receive the service. Inviting a cleaning team into a home is a personal decision, even when the service is free.
If you’re helping someone apply, ask how much assistance they would like. They may appreciate reviewing the information together, or they may prefer to explore the program privately.

Why Donations Matter When Cleaning Services Are Free
A common question is why Cleaning for a Reason needs financial donations when cleaning companies already donate their services.
Participating cleaning companies are not paid by the nonprofit for these cleanings. Financial contributions support the work behind the program, including connecting patients with cleaning partners, recruiting participating companies, and helping identify patients in need.
That’s why Simply Tidy both donates cleaning services and fundraises. Our team provides the cleaning, while fundraising helps sustain the organization that makes those connections possible.
When you contribute through our fundraiser, you support the wider program. Your donation does not purchase an individual cleaning; it helps maintain a resource that people facing cancer can turn to for practical support.
How to Help Cancer Patients Find Free Home Cleaning
You don’t have to donate money or live nearby to help someone discover this resource. Sharing clear, accurate information can make a difference.
Consider sharing the program with:
- A friend or family member who has asked about practical support during cancer treatment
- A nurse navigator, social worker, or cancer care team
- A local community organization or support group
Our Cleaning for a Reason page is a helpful starting point. You can also share the official patient information and application page.
Keep the message simple: free home cleaning may be available through Cleaning for a Reason, depending on local availability. Let the person decide whether to explore it, and avoid promising an appointment before a match is confirmed.
Share Cancer Support Resources With Care
Helping someone find support does not require sharing their diagnosis publicly.
You can post Cleaning for a Reason’s public information without naming a patient, describing their treatment, or using a family’s photograph. If someone asks for help with the application, let them choose which steps they want you to handle.
The goal is to make a useful resource easier to find while respecting the privacy and preferences of the person who may use it.
Support Simply Tidy’s Cleaning for a Reason Fundraiser
Help us keep these connections possible by contributing to Simply Tidy’s Cleaning for a Reason fundraiser. Choose an amount that fits your budget, or help spread awareness by sharing our program page.
Someone in our community may discover this help for the first time because you shared it. Whether you donate, pass along the application information, or introduce the program to a local organization, you can help a neighbor find practical support during cancer treatment.
